Hello, authors! This week we had the opportunity to connect with one of the most influential professional processes our stories go through.
The editing process.
Our guest this week, Beth Miller, is a professional editor. Beth walked us through the importance of an education if you are contemplating a career in the editing field and the attributes that we need to have as authors in this industry.
The editing process for most of us is the most intimidating part right next to completing a book. Beth gave us insight on the importance of having humility while graciously accepting feedback. The stories we write are pieces of who we are and sharing that with an editor like giving your lamb to a butcher and hoping to get the lamb back still in one piece.
Okay, I’m being dramatic.
But that’s how it can feel. Beth gave us perspective on the traits of a professional writer, the one sticking out to me is humility and seeing the editing process as where the work begins. Editors can see your story for all of its possibilities.
Join us for a thought-provoking conversation as we get the inside story on being an editor and how we can be good stewards of their feedback! See you there!!
